Maddy's Donation to Wigs For Kids

Maddy, my daughter, had long, beautiful hair with natural highlights.  I never had it cut.  We would go in and have it trimmed, but I wouldn't let her cut it.  It was just too beautiful and soft!

After months of her asking me to let her cut her hair, I said yes.  She and I talked, and she decided she wanted to donate her hair to Wigs for Kids.  The morning of the donation, we washed her hair and let it air dry on the way to the salon.  She had over TEN inches cut off!!  She was so excited to have the opportunity to help children that had lost their hair.  Also, she LOVED her new hairstyle!  She has decided that she wants to let her hair grow back out so she can donate it again.  She has a very generous and giving heart.

We chose Wigs for Kids instead of other organizations because the salon that my hair stylist works at is a Certified Service Provider for Wigs for Kids.  If we had wanted to choose another organization, we could have, we just would have taken the hair with us and mailed it to them ourselves.  The route we went though, the salon did all the work for us.

Wigs for Kids is a nonprofit organization that provides hair replacement systems and support for children who have lost their hair due to chemotherapy, radiation therapy, Alopecia, Trichotillomania, burns, and other medical issues at NO cost to the children or their families.  According to Connecticut Children's Medical Center, over two million children are affected by hair loss.  If you are interested, there are ways to help other than donating hair such as community outreach, corporate giving, outside fundraising, and numerous volunteer opportunities.
